Just like foundation and concealer, I have several primers in my makeup collection and they all do slightly different things. For those who follow me in Instagram you will know that I change up my makeup pretty much every day. I try to be much more consistent with skincare, but I view primers as falling into the makeup category, so I change these up a fair bit too.

1. Laura Mercier Foundation Primer £28.00- this is my basic go-to primer that I pretty much use every day. It does the job perfectly, feels really nice upon application and my makeup stays in place all day long. It comes in many variations - oil free, radiance, hydrating, mineral, with SPF. 2. Stila One Step Correct £24.00 - this delightful little primer does a lot more than just look cool. The three colours swirling about in the bottle combine together to colour correct, brighten and hide imperfections. The green colour neutralises redness, the lavender takes away sallowness and the peach brightens and illuminates. It is a very easy to use little gem that is well worth having for those blah days. 3. MAC Prep + Prime £20.50 - I use this one more in my kit than I do for myself but i'm not sure why. It is a lovely feeling light lotion that calms and soothes the skin. It is silicone based with tiny light-reflecting particles which give a radiant glow. My only peeve is that the bottle is opaque so you can't tell how much product you have left. I also use an eye primer under any eye makeup I apply. If you don't already, I implore you to do the same - it will change your life! No more creasing ever and your makeup will last all day and night no matter how hot and sweaty you get. I also have a couple of these - the Benefit Stay Don't Stray (£20.50) and the Nars Smudge Proof Eye Shadow Base (£19.00). I much prefer the Nars as it is transparent and has a much nicer consistency. The Benefit one is quite thick and almost looks like a concealer. It just doesn't look good under the eye at all and the product started to separate a little after only a month or so of use. The cheap side of me is forcing myself to finish the tube before I move on but I won't be repurchasing it.

Another little trick I picked up while doing my course in Sydney was to use the MAC paint pots (£15.00) in either 'painterly' or 'ground work' depending on skin tone, as an eye shadow base. These also works really well in keeping eye products in place and are best applied over the entire eye lid with a nylon bristled concealer brush. Make sure you blend out any hard lines before moving on to eye shadow application. In Australia you can buy paint pots for $35.00 here.
