How to - Cream Shadows

A little while back I posted on some really easy cream shadows by Maybelline here. It occurred to me that a lot of people out there don't really know the best way to tackle these. They are really very easy to apply and to remain crease-free if you do a little prep before you start.

Step 1 - apply your concealer and setting powder to the corner of your eyes as normal.

Step 2 - spray some water on to a cotton pad and wipe across the lid of your eye to remove any excess oil. Excess oil is what makes the products crease.

Step 3 - dry off the eye lids with the dry side of the cotton pad.

Step 4 - apply the cream shadow with your fingers, blending out any harsh edges. I am using the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Velvet Plum to enhance the green in my eyes. I prefer to use my fingers to blend however if you prefer to use a brush, just make sure it has nylon bristles (see top photograph) as cream products and natural-hair brushes do not mix.

Remember - you can apply powdered eye shadows over a cream product like this but you can't apply a cream product once you have applied a powder one.
