Dior Gel Coat Nail Polish

When it comes to my nails, I am as low-maintenance as they come. Nothing annoys me more than a manicure that it not absolutely perfect, which means most of the time I don't wear any nail polish. I realise some people may find this quite outrageous, especially now that I am working in the world of makeup.

I had a brief fling with shellac manicures and was horrified at the weakened state it left my nails in. I think my last shellac manicure was in March and here we are in July, and my nails are still breaking because of it.

However last week I decided I would make more of an effort. I think I was influenced by all the other beauty blogs that I read and by how lovely their nails always look in their blog photos. Introducing the Dior Gel Coat for £18.00 which promises to give you a 'spectacular shine and shape' and is meant to make your nail polish stay chip-free for longer. I must admit, I was swayed by the packaging. Isn't it lovely?

Did it deliver? Well it kind of did. I layered it over my Mavala Toulouse nail polish and got a full three days wear out of it before it started to chip which is a better result than the 1-2 days I would normally get. On the second test it didn't fare as well when I teamed it with my Chanel polish in Muse. After less than 48 hours it was chipping away.

Is it worth the fairly hefty price tag? Probably not, unless you don't mind paying a little extra for nice packaging. If anything, it has encouraged me to branch out and give my nails a little more attention than normal. You can buy this online in the UK here. It doesn't seem to be available to buy online in Australia so you need to head to your local Dior counter.

I also feel I have to give a special mention to my new favourite nail polish brand Mavala. I first bought this brand purely based on the small bottle sizes. Is there anyone in the world who has actually finished a bottle of coloured nail polish? Please raise your hand if there is. These little bottles of loveliness are only 5ml in size which makes them perfect for travel and priced at £4.30 each. You can buy Mavala at Boots here in the UK or from Beauty Bay which ships internationally for FREE! Beauty Bay also have a sale on at the moment ....
